Brief Biography
During the long drive from Silver Spring, MD to Quantico, VA and back, he would reminisce about melodies and music. Time was flying by and he needed to act on his love for music. Playing instruments as before was no longer possible. Composition was his best chance to get back to music.
Kirshenbaum, 65, grew up playing music. His parents started him on the piano in elementary school; as he got older he joined a marching band, youth orchestra, added flute, piccolo, and oboe to his repertoire.
At this point an important decision had to be made: music or medicine. Because of the love for science, he began as a biology student in Providence College, Rhode Island, and then as a medical student in Georgetown Medical School, Washington D.C. The decision left him little time for the pursuit for music, which he never forgot. He was determined to reconnect with music.
When Dr. Kirshenbaum heard his first composition performed publicly, he was in awe.
He now dedicates 10 hours per week to work on composing music using a computer program that speeds the flow of the music, allowing him to rewind and fast forward the tunes and melodies.
Dr. Arnold Kirshenbaum, M.D. is a Kohen, a descendant of Aharon and a part of Jewish priestly class. He is an observant Orthodox Jew and observes Shabbat, daily prayers, and studies Torah. Melodies will come to him over Shabbat but can't be written down until the following evening, making composition difficult.
“I don’t know that I could have pursued it differently, frankly I’m just happy to see myself getting back to it.” ~ Dr. Arnold Kirshenbaum
