Brief Biography
Dr. Arnold S Kirshenbaum M.D. comments, “Working for Dr. Fauci was a unique experience. A no-nonsense, excellent immunologist and teacher, he expected his fellows to excel, thoroughly understand his/her patients and their rare diseases, whether vasculitis or HIV/AIDS at that time, and provide the best in care. In many respects, paying very close attention to minute details, whether in patient care or research, served me very well when composing. I thank them both every day for the opportunity.”
After a long and successful career in medicine, he discovered old music scorebooks, found a professional instructor, and has composed and seen his musical works performed by local groups. He can still recall the drives he made from his home to the Naval and Marine Health Clinic in Quantico nearly 40 years ago like it was yesterday. He was sponsored and received professional training at a military hospital in California, and later Kirshenbaum was assigned to the Naval and Marine Health Clinic.
“Anybody could walk in off the base,” he said. “You could have a heart attack, a gunshot.” He still remembers the melodies that came to him on the long drives each morning and evening for four years. This reminded him of his medical career and the obstacles he faced and led him to reconnect to the love of music. Music was an essential part of his childhood and until this day is a big part of his life.
